资源简介:
"Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted an intensive archaeological survey of the 0.8
hectare Cambridge Pointe Tract in Walterboro, South Carolina in December 2002. The work was
conducted at the request of Companion Associates, Inc., in compliance with federal regulations
concerning the management of cultural resources on private property administered by the US Army
Corps of Engineers. ...There are no standing structures within the tract. Archival research concerning past land
ownership and use identified the presence of the Neyle House on the project tract. The house was
constructed in 1810 and moved from the project tract in 1974. Investigators identified one
archaeological site (38CN239) during the archaeological survey of the Cambridge Pointe Tract. We
recommend site 38CN239 eligible for the NRHP. However, only an area in the eastern portion of
the site contributes to its eligibility. This area of significance should be protected from disturbances
associated with the proposed development of the Cambridge Pointe Tract. If avoidance of this area
of significance is not possible, an appropriate archaeological data recovery plan should be
implemented. If land disturbing activities in the project tract are designed to avoid the area of
significance, site 38CN239 will not be affected. Current plans place the 38CN239 area of significance
in a preservation area."
