VPRS 3219 Outward Registered Correspondence

This series contains the transcriptions of the outward correspondence of the General Branch of the Colonial Secretary's Office. Other volumes of the same series are in VPRS 2814 Outward Registered Correspondence. These make up two parts of a recordkeeping system for outward correspondence used by the Colonial Secretary's Office. The constituent parts of this system are :VPRS 3219 Outward Registered CorrespondenceVPRS 2814 Outward Registered CorrespondenceVPRS 2887 Circulars andVPRS 1188 Index to Outward Correspondence.A system of twenty-four volumes was used for the recording of this correspondence. Twenty of these are contained in VPRS 3219 and four in the four volumes of VPRS 2814. Each volume was devoted to a specific subject or office such as Sheriff, Other Colonies, Colonial Architect, Institutions and Clergy. Within each volume all correspondence in relation to that subject or addressed to that office was transcribed. Correspondence related to the administration of that specific area of the Colonial Secretary's responsibilities.All correspondence includes the name and location of the recipient, the outward registered number, the inward registered number of the piece of correspondence to which this was a response, the date of the correspondence, any reference number used by the correspondent, a transcription of the letter or memo and notes of any enclosures. The inclusion of the inwards correspondence reference number allows the inwards correspondence to be consulted in VPRS 1189 Inward Registered Correspondence.
