Financial capital in the context of community capital reflects the resources needed to advance and fund a community’s economic, social, and infrastructure development. Community health is dependent on availability of financial capital institutions and the access to the capital they enable deployment of. Examples of such institutions include traditional banks, designated community development financial institutions, credit unions, farm credit system institutions, loan funds, venture capital funds, government entities, foundations and other non-profits, and public benefit corporations. These entities serve as potential sources of a wide range of financial products and services with a primary role aimed at bringing financial and business resources to communities to stimulate economic growth and foster a stable economic climate. The Financial Capital Dataset is organized by county, the name of the financial capital institution offering financial services or products, the type of institution, the financial instrument available (ie. loan, grant, banking services, equity, venture funding, the program name (if applicable), whether the financial services of products available have any specific energy focus or opportunity, the range of funding available for the program, and additional details where relevant.
