资源简介:
The overarching aim of this research is to describe patterns of soils, vegetation and hydrology in the
savanna landscapes in Kruger National Park (KNP) that are spatially organised at various scales by
the configuration of drainage networks.
Specific objectives were to:
Develop a hierarchical conceptual framework within which the structure, function and
dynamics of water-controlled ecosystems can be described, explained and predicted. The
framework will include both drainage networks and hillslopes, so that linkages can be
described and explored in a holistic manner across the entire landscape.
Construct a spatially explicit, scaled and hierarchically nested classification of Kruger National
Park landscapes, based on the conceptual framework.
Explore the hydrological, geomorphological and ecological implications of the diversity and
spatial arrangement of elements at each scale (representing an organisational level in the
hierarchical model).
Integrate the framework and classification into the Kruger Park management system as a test
case for broader application.
