A panel of adaptive mutations have accumulated within ZIKV genome during the cyclical transmission between humans and mosquitoes, some of which contribute to the development of distinct phenotypic shifts. In this study, we demonstrate that serial passaging of ZIKV in mosquito Aag2 cells precipitates the emergence of critical amino acid substitutions.
