Rare reports about bacterioplankton of the north tip of Antarctic Peninsula had been published. Our research, which was part of the 28th Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition (CHINARE), focused on the bacteria diversity and community structure of the upper water of north tip Antarctica Peninsula. This sampling area is interesting, because it is the region that water-mass mixing from the Antarctic and subantarctic oceans. The next generation sequencing-Roche 454 was applied to assess bacteria community structure during the summertime (from Dec. 17, 2011 to Jan. 29, 2012). And a baseline of the bacteria community structure was supported for the intensive studies.
