Microbiome study during the course of a natural influenza infection. human metagenome

This study will investigate if shifts in nasal cavity microbiota occur during infection with influenza virus. The goal of this study is to investigate 16S bacterial sequences to examine: 1) changes in the microbiota over the course of a natural influenza infection; 2) microbial changes in children versus adults during influenza infection; 3) differences between the microbiota in individuals infected with influenza A versus influenza B viruses. As part of this project we will provide 16S sequencing data from nasopharyngeal swabs and nasal swabs collected from adults and children entering the clinic with influenza-like symptoms.
