Small RNA Sequencing of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma with Lymph Node Metastasis

Although the general prognosis of patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is favourable, some cases shows aggressive phenotype. Numerous studies showed that lymph node metastasis is associated with recurrence in thyroid cancer and increase the mortality rate particularly in elderly patients. Relationship between microRNA (miRNA) with tumor growth, tumor progression and response to treatment has been demonstrated through miRNA expression profiling studies, which indicate the ability of these molecules to be used as biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. This study aims to characterize existing and novel miRNAs which are differentially expressed in PTC with lymph node metastasis as compared to paired normal adjacent tissues.
