SARS-CoV-2 Infection Associated Gut Dysbiosis and Immune Response to COVID-19 Vaccine in Patients with Schizophrenia

Patients with schizophrenia (SZ) are at a higher risk for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, which can influence the intestinal mucosal immunity and substantially disturb intestinal homeostasis. Accumulating evidence suggests that the gut microbiota plays crucial roles in the development and maintenance of immune homeostasis. However, the alterations of gut microbiota and host immunity in SZ patients and its associations with SARS-CoV-2 infection during hospitalization is barely understood.
