Residues of pharmaceuticals in the environment

Active pharmaceutical ingredients are sometimes used in human and veterinary medicine in considerable quantities and are detectable in the environment. The study by the Federal Environment Agency describes the development of the consumption volumes of active pharmaceutical ingredients and compares the values of the years 1997 and 2014. A total of 24 indication groups and their occurrence in different environmental compartments in Austria are treated. The results provide a detailed overview of the situation in Austria and serve as a basis for further investigations and possible measures to minimise stress.
