A strain secreting carrageenase is screened, and the kappa-selenocarrageenan could be degraded into selenium oligosaccharide which is easily absorbed by the organism. Finally, We tried to find a new gene encoding carrageenase from the whole genome of the strain and could be employed as a potential biotechnological tool for depolymerizing kappa-selenocarrageenan, which would facilitate the future application of kappa-selenocarrageenan and its degradation products.
