资源简介:
A survey of selected leisure-time activities was conducted in March 1972 in conjuction with the regular monthly Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey. A joint project of the Education Division of Statistics Canada and the Arts and Cultural Support Branch of the Department of the Secretary of State, the survey was sponsored in large part by the latter organizations. The Survey of Leisure Time Activities was conducted in 1978, 1975 and in 1972 as a supplement to the Labour Force Survey The objective of this survey is to gain information on the cultural activities of Canadians and in particular their reading habits as they relate to the leisure time activities. The reason being to assist in the development of policies and programmes related to publishing and reading in Canada. The specific objective of the survey vehicle is to determine directly who reads, how much is read and what types of material and subject matter are read. Through the analysis, the characteristics of the respondent will be linked to their reading habits. The intent being to identify relationships between age, sex, education, and other leisure time activities and reading habits. The survey results were reported in "A leisure study, Canada 1972" and in an issue of the Service bulletin of the Education, Science and Culture Division (STC Cat.no. 81-001, Vol. 2, January 1973). A review of the findings of the survey and of other surveys led the Secretary of State Department to conclude that it has need for periodic surveys of the cultural activities of Canadians.
