Recovery of 1,015 metagenome-assembled genomes from Asian elephant fecal metagenomes in China

The Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) digestive tract harbors a diverse microbiota that plays an indispensable role in breaking down fiber and providing protein and energy. However, the lack of a reference gene catalog and genomes has greatly limited the exploration of the composition and function of the Asian elephant gut microbiota. Here, we successfully reconstructed 21 non-redundant archaeal MAGs. We present the first large-scale reconstruction of non-redundant MAGs from Asian elephant fecal metagenomic data, providing a valuable resource for in-depth investigation of the structure and function of the Asian elephant gut microbiota.
