The findspot of the kantharos, dated around the middle of the 6th century BC, is unknown. Nevertheless, it can be assumed, that it was produced in eastern Greece: the decoration of vessel with plastically attached masks is especially known from the Aeolic-Ionic coast of Asia Minor north of Smyrna. The Bonn example shows the mask of a satyr, that was made in a mould.
