This section is part of a larger study designed to compare the profiles of the distal gut microbiota of healthy adolescents and adolescents with IBS-D. The high throughput sequencing data was used to confirm the results obtained by phylogenetic microbiota arrays. Universal primers were used to amplify partial 16S bacterial ribosomal RNA gene from fecal DNA extracts. 454 pyrosequencing was used to generate bacterial profile of the distal gut microbiota by quantifying the number of reads per OTU.
