Payment transaction value in catering in the Netherlands 2012-2017, by payment method

This statistic shows the total value of cash money, debit card, credit card or other card payment transactions in hotels, restaurants and catering (abbreviated in Dutch as horeca) in the Netherlands in 2012, 2014 and 2017 (in billion euros). Debit cards were widely used, with transactions worth 9.4 billion euros worth in 2017. This was much less the case for credit cards.Within Europe there is a lot of diversity when it comes to the use of payment methods. Every country has its own way of paying money, with credit/debit cards, checks, mobile apps, NFC (Near-Field Communication, or contactless payments) and digital wallets being the most well-known digital payments methods in Europe.
