资源简介:
This repository contains data from the Jizan pilot study demonstrating the feasibility of mineral carbon storage in the basalts of the Jizan region. The project achieved subsurface carbon mineralization by injecting water-dissolved CO₂, a method that enhances safety and efficiency by creating a dense, non-buoyant fluid and accelerating the reactivity of the host rock.
Key operational highlights:
- A closed-loop water circuit between an injection well and a production well (Mar 2023 - Apr 2024).
- Continuous CO₂ injection (May-July 2023) delivered 131 tons of CO₂.
- Tracer tests revealed a dual-porosity subsurface with fast fracture flow and a slower matrix.
Evidence for mineralization:
- A significant drop in dissolved carbon, alongside rising cation levels, indicates subsurface carbonation reactions.
- Carbonate minerals found on a recovered pump were isotopically linked to the injected CO₂.
- Conservative tracer analysis confirms ~70% of injected CO₂ was mineralized within ten months.
