Contaminated water and fuel samples were obtained from ground tanks and aircraft wing tanks from airports in Europe and the Middle East. 16S rRNA and ITS genes were amplified and used to identify prokaryotic and eukaryotic taxa. Contaminated water samples were sequenced directly or placed in microcosms. Contaminated fuel samples were placed in microcosms then sequenced.
