The SML_IACP_NOAA_HRPT_MAIN_DATA dataset contains imagery data from NOAA Satellites received by Satellite Monitoring Laboratory of the Institute of Automation an Control Processes under various research projects of the ocean and marginal seas. The data acquisition has begun on August 25, 1993, and is continuing until now (2002-04-25). There are follow time intervals of data acquisition: from 1993-08-25 to 1998-12-31 not regularly, since 1999-01-03 - every day. The spatial coverage is Far Eastern Region of Russia and Adjacent Areas, i.e. longitudes between 110 degrees and 180 degrees of East longitude and latitudes between 20 degrees and 70 degrees of North latitude. The spatial and temporal resolutions are usual for NOAA HRPT data. All received frames of data during one receiving session ( the time of satellite flying from 20 to 70 degrees of North latitude ) are put into one data file. The data product includes measurements from: Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer ( AVHRR ) - 5-6 Infrared (IR) and visible channels with 1.1 km spatial resolution in nadir; High Resolution Infrared Radiation Sounder ( HIRS ) and Microwave Sounding Unit ( MSU/AMSU ) - 40 IR- and MW-channels with spatial resolution 20-50 km; Stratospheric Sounding Unit ( SSU ). The list of satellites ( sources of data ) includes all available NOAA Polar Orbiting Environmental Satellites since 1993, i.e. NOAA 9-12 and NOAA 14-16. The main parameters included in the dataset are sensor counts of NOAA units mentioned above. They represent in fact such physical parameters as infrared, microwave and visible radiance, presented in a form of integers of various ranges ( e.g. 10-bit integers for AVHRR ). The data product consists of more than 6000 files (at 2002-04-25), which include satellite data during one receiving session. There are used different forms of data packing for internal file format of acquiring data. Nevertheless, all dataset files may be converted into Level 1b format. The distribution of data is planned on CD-ROMs in any form, convenient for users.
