Register of Geographic Place Names (VICNAMES)

VICNAMES holds over 45,000 place names and over 200,000 roadnames such as mountains, rivers, transport infrastructure, parks, reserves,forests, bounded localities, roads, streets and lanes.The Register has the capacity to hold 342 separate feature types and 153individual road types. Records within VICNAMES may have historical informationattached, there are over 12,000 geographic features and road names that havehistorical information associated to them. VICNAMES as Victoria's register ofgeographic place names forms part of the national gazetteer which is hosted byGeoScience Australia and updated yearly. Data from VICNAMES or the NationalGazetter maybe downloaded at any time.
