Hydrochemical data, Maddur - Berambadi, India

This data set contains the data related to the chemical composition of the Maddur stream and Maddur-Berambadi groundwater: the electrical conductivity (EC; µS/cm), pH and major ion concentrations (Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, NO3−, SO42−, F−, Cl−; µmol/L) are measured by default. Dissolved silica (Si; µmol/L), total alkalinity (Alk; µeq/L), dissolved organic carbon (DOC; mg/L), water temperature (WT; °C) are regularly measured in the groundwater and less frequently in the stream. Suspended particulate matter (SPM; mg/L) is measured only in the stream.
Maddur stream geochemical monitoring was initiated in April 2004. It relied first on manual sampling of base flow and further on a battery-operated automatic sampler triggered by a water level probe that collected stream storms at hourly frequency. The main gaps, due to sampler failure and bridge renovation, occurred for the years 2006-2008, 2015-2016, 2018 and due to access restrictions in 2011-2012.
Groundwater geochemical monitoring was initiated in December 2006 in the Maddur sub-watershed (n=10 to 88 samples per field campaign; see file “Maddur_water_points_locations” for details about the nature of sampling points and their location). This seasonal monitoring (dry season, monsoon and post-monsoon) was interrupted from July 2010 to April 2012 and stopped in December 2012. Missing anion data concern the monsoon 2007. Missing Si data concern some post-monsoon 2006, monsoon 2008, monsoon 2009, post- monsoon 2012. Groundwater monitoring was up scaled to the Berambadi watershed in 2012 (n=140 to 180 samples), mostly on annual basis. Fourteen sampling points are part of the Maddur watershed and common with the initial groundwater monitoring. Berambadi groundwater could not be collected in 2015, 2017 and 2019. Missing Si data concern September 2012, January, June and October 2013, November 2016 and January 2020. Missing DOC data concern January and June 2013, November 2016, December 2018, January 2020.
