Dataset from news media websites concerning "Participatory Budgeting" for DEMOTEC project

The dataset was produced by the DEMOTEC Horizon project funded by the EU (H2020 GA no.962553). The main purpose of the project was the study of Participatory Budgeting (PB) and other democratic innovations at the local level of governance.The dataset consists of articles appearing in news media websites in 9 languages (Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish), published between 2014 and 2021. Any media article appearing in NewsAPI (newsapi.org) that contained any of the keywords appearing below (“Participatory Budgeting” in different languages) was parsed, collecting a total 42,189 articles.

The dataset contains a total of 17 variables, including information on the title, main body of the article, as well as a number of attributes of the source website.
