Index Fungorum, the World Database of Fungal Names, is a free online mycological database that curates all formally published scientific names within the Kingdom Fungi. This database is jointly operated and maintained by institutions including the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (UK), Landcare Research (New Zealand), and the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, among others. It serves a similar function to the International Plant Names Index (IPNI) in the field of botany. Index Fungorum enables queries of nomenclatural data for fungi across taxonomic ranks from species to higher taxa above the family level, and records the literature citations and taxonomic status of each name. It is also one of the three official fungal nomenclature databases recognized by the International Commission on Fungal Nomenclature.
