These data support the research article "Repellency of wild oregano plant volatiles, Plectranthus amboinicus, and their essential oils to the silverleaf whitefly , Bemisia tabaci, on tomato ”. We tested three origins of wild oregano, including northern (WO1), central (WO2) and southern (WO3) Martinique (French West Indies). 🍅 Olfactometric bioassays were carried out with a vertical still-air olfactometer and we evaluated the behavioral response of B. tabaci to wild oregano extracts. The olfactometer was exposed to white light and 10 to 15 whiteflies were introduced in the bottom of olfactometer. We tested ethanolic solution of WO essential oil applied on filter paper disc or tomato leaflet disc placed at the top of olfactometer. We also tested essential oil of winter savory (WS).Three modalities were tested: 50, 100 and 200ng of essentials EO per disc at the same time as two control olfactometers. One of the control is a empty olfactometer called air and the other control olfactometer had filter paper or tomato leaflet. We also tested ethanolic solution of volatile organic compounds. VOCs of individual wild oregano plant were collected during 24h then were eluted with 200 µL of pure ethanol. 15 ethanolic VOC solution per origin were tested on filter paper disc or tomato leaflet disc using the method described above. An experiment was conducted in an insect-proof cage in a greenhouse and we compared the distribution of B. tabaci adults and egg laying between between different associations after release whiteflies. Four modalities were studied: tomato alone (tomato), tomato with WO1 (T+WO1), tomato with WO2(T+WO2) and tomato with WO3. A test consisted of four growing trays, one tray per modality, and it was repeated six times. The document provides data collected in Martinique (2019). For olfactometric bioassays, we counted the number of whiteflies in the top of olfactometer and the other part. Then we calculated the proportion of whiteflies in the top of olfactometer. For the greenhouse test, we counted the number of B. tabaci adults at three times, 3 h, 24 h and 96 h after release. We also counted the number of eggs 96h after release. The data are the tables in excel. Essential oils and ethanolic solution of VOCs were analyzed with a gas chromatograph (Varian 450 GC) equipped with a DB5 MS non-polar capillary column (30 m × 0.25 mm × 0.25 μm, Agilent Technologies) coupled with a mass spectrometer (Varian 240-MS Ion Trap) operating in full scan mode with a 35 to 350 m/z range.
