Coral reefs provide considerable ecosystem services, yet cataloging taxa for monitoring and conservation purposes can be difficult given their high biodiversity. We sequenced 12S, COI, and 18S amplicons from 26 natural reef sites throughout the Hawaiian Archipelago to characterize the fish, metazoan, and eukaryotic communities. We also sequenced 12S and COI amplicons from 10 public aquarium tanks for validation of the metabarcoding approach.
