B. japonicum E109 is one of the most used strain for soybean inoculants formulation in Argentina since more than 40 years. The strain was received from DSIR [New Zealand] in 1980 with unclear nomenclature [USDA ARS 7; USDA 138 and USDA 6]. B. japonicum E109 was re-isolated in 1984 from surface sterilized root nodules from soybean plants in Hurlingam, Buenos Aires. This strain was selected based on its ability to increase growth and yield of soybean under agronomic conditions.
