Chinese narcissus belongs to perennial herb of amaryllidaceae. It is not only one of ten famous traditional flowers in China but also occupies an important place in world flower market. Nowadays the flower color of the cultivated varieties is single, which severely restricts the development of Chinese narcissus industry. Unfortunately, for lack of systematic knowledge of flower pigmentation mechanism of this species, the purposes to remodel the flower color of Chinese narcissus in the past few years are frustrated. To conquer this plight, a combined method using high-throughout transcriptome sequencing and differential gene expression profiling (DGE) analysis was carried out in tepals at different pigmentation stages to discover the genes and pathways that may involve in tepal coloration regulations.
