Only shallow

Unrestricted There is a certain quality about the band My Bloody Valentine's atmospherics and energy that eludes a proper description and at the same time begs for the listener to empty themselves upon the song and the space the song creates. Through its open-endedness, i.e. mostly indecipherable lyrics, layered guitars, strong use of repetition, lack of traditional verse-chorus-verse structure, lack of clear melodies, asexual vocals, general song titles, MBV's cult-like album Loveless demands from the listener a language in which to open it up and insert themselves. The fan relishes and actively participates in filling in the open spaces of the sound with their desire. This desire is manifested through a constant and complicated negotiation for the subject to impose order or chaos at any given desire through language. In doing so, Loveless becomes a sort of manifesto or anthem for existing somewhere in between these two extremes of order and chaos.
