Natural Disaster Yarra Ranges

The Natural Disaster Yarra Ranges Green Army project will focus on the northern section of Yarra Ranges Council which was significantly damaged by the storms on 13-14 February 2015. Significant environment and community icons experienced devastating washouts, for example the Warburton Rail Trail. The large amounts of rain also inundated the numerous waterways and work is now required to stabilise riverbanks; restore native habitat which includes replanting endangered flora species, Eucalyptus crenulata (Buxton Gum); and revegetate degraded areas. This will build resilience for future storm events, promote habitat for significant fauna and flora species and ensure water quality in the critical upper catchment flowing into urban Melbourne.
