Xylella fastidiosa subsp. multiplex CFBP8078 Genome sequencing and assembly

Xylella fastidiosa is a bacterial plant pathogen disseminated across the Americas, while its presence is currently described in several European countries. Seven strains, available at the CIRM-CFBP (http://www.angers-nantes.inra.fr/cfbp/) were selected. Six strains were isolated in the USA from Vitis rotundifolia (CFBP7969), Vitis vinifera (CFBP 7970), Vitis SP (CFBP8351), Prunus dulcis (CFBP 8071) and Ambrosia artemifolia (CFBP 8082) and belong to X. fastidiosa subsp. fastidiosa. One strain was isolated in the USA from Vinca sp. (CFBP 8078) and belongs to X. fastidiosa subsp. multiplex. One strain was isolated from a coffee plant imported from the Costa Rica and intercepted in France (CFBP 8356) and belongs to X. fastidiosa subsp. sandyi. The taxonomic assignation to a subpecies was based on multiprimer PCR (Hernandez-Martinez et al., 2006), MLST scheme using 7 housekeeping genes (Yuan et al., 2010) and whole-genome sequencing unsing the Illumina Mi-Seq technology.
