Emergence of a Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis stG62647-lineage associated with severe clinical manifestations

Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis (SDSE) is increasingly implicated in invasive infections worldwide, but the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying this upsurge are unknown. With the present work, we have documented the recent emergence of a virulent SDSE genotype, stG62647, in western Norway, and delineated its clinical and genetic characteristics.
