Data and R Code for: Modeling Late-Winter Forest Snow Depth Using Basal Area and Thermal Forcing in a Hemiboreal Mountain Catchment

This repository contains the dataset and R scripts used to develop and validate the Snow Retention Index (SRI) model presented in the associated manuscript. The dataset includes plot-level forest snow depth (FSD), meteorological station maximum snow depth (MSD), stand structural variables (e.g., basal area, composition index), terrain variables (elevation, eastness), and positive degree days (PDD). The R scripts reproduce all statistical analyses reported in the manuscript, including descriptive statistics, mixed-effects modeling, fixed-effects regression, validation metrics, and generation of predicted forest snow depth (FSD). The code is fully executable using the provided dataset.
