The Canada fitness survey was established to obtain: - fitness norms for persons aged 7 to 69 - baseline information and trends on activity patterns - baseline information and trends on other factors influencing fitness - trends in the fitness norms through repetition every five years Fitness variables include cardio-respiratory function, muscular endurance (push-ups, sit-ups), flexibility, grip strength, bypertension, functional ability, psychological well-being. Activity variables include nature of activity, duration, frequency, intensidy, demands of main activity. Attitudes and knowledge variables include toward initiating activity, sustaining activity, toward fitness, knowledge of activity-fitness relationship, knowledge of PARTICIPaction and its promotion. Barriers variables include time, facilities, health, skill, and cost. Modifier variables include height, weight, somatotype, perceived state of health, perceived level of fitness, limitation in work activity, limitation in leisure activity, alcohol use, tobacco use, and nutrition. Demographic variables include age, sex, marital status, household composition, education, income, major economic activity, occupation, industry, region of residence, community type, language. Respondents were also grouped according to demographic variables.
