Images and Site Records from an Archaeological Watching Brief at Waterloo Kiln, Swinton, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, February 2022

This collection comprises images and site records from an archaeological monitoring (watching brief) at Waterloo Kiln, Swinton, Rotherham, South Yorkshire. This work was undertaken by Network Archaeology in February 2022 during the clearance of the interior of the kiln and the cleaning of the kiln floor. The cleaning of the floor revealed four intrusions into the brickwork. Glass from one of the deposits filling these intrusions has been dated to the first half of the twentieth century, suggesting that holes within the floor were filled in during this period. It is likely that all the recorded deposits date to a similar period, post-dating the use of the kiln and relate to its use as a dwelling or later as an isolation hospital.
