The genus Thomisus is characterised by marked sexual dimorphism. Six of the 15 species from Southern Africa are known from one sex only. A large series of specimens have been collected as part of the South African National Survey of Arachnida (SANSA), resulting in the discovery of the male of Thomisus kalaharinus Lawrence, 1936. The general morphology of the species is discussed, and photographs of live specimens are provided. Notes on their behaviour, distribution in South Africa, and conservation are provided.
