Assessment of the political situation of the country. Attitude to the
European Union. Topics: Judgement on the general development of the
country; satisfaction with democracy in one´s country (split: democracy
development versus manner of function of democracy); attitude to the
free market economy; assessment of the extent of respect for human
rights in one´s country; knowledge of the European flag; knowledge
about the organizations UN, EU and European Council; attitude to the
goals and activities of the EU; designation of the country with
orientation function for the future of one´s own country; approval of
one´s own country joining the EU as well as NATO and reasons for or
against this; approval of joining the EU given previous membership of
one´s own country in NATO; primary beneficiary of the relations between
the EU and one´s own country; sources of information used about
policies and institutions of the EU; population groups and political
areas that could profit from a tie to the EU or could be disadvantaged;
interest in information about topic areas of the EU, such as
agriculture, foreign and security policy, environment, human rights
etc. Demography: sex; school education; age; eligibility to vote; party
preference (Sunday question); occupational position; nationality;
knowledge of a foreign language; income (classified). Also encoded was:
region; city size.
