## **Abstract** \n\nThis dataset and its metadata statement were supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and are presented here as originally supplied.\n\n\n\nLocation of all current Exploration Licences/Permits issued under the Petroleum Act, 2000, Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act, 1982, or Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act, 1967 for the regulated resource or commodity of petroleum. Exploration Licences/Permits provide exclusive tenure rights to explore for the regulated resource or commodity of petroleum for a minimum of 5 or 6 years. Comment is sought on applications for Exploration Licences/Permits from numerous sources before granting. Exploration programs are subject to strict environmental and heritage conditions. Exploitation of identified resources must be made under separate petroleum production leases.\n\n## **Purpose** \n\nThe dataset was developed to record information necessary for the administration of the Petroleum Act, 2000, Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act, 1982, and Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act, 1967.\n\n\n\nUse: Used to supply government, industry and the general public with an up-to-date status and extent of petroleum exploration activities throughout the state.\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nLineage:\n\n\n\nSource Data History: Exploration Licences/Permits boundaries were sourced from the official Petroleum Register licence/permit documents. Licence/permit boundaries are legally defined to follow lines of latitude and longitude, based on potentially several geodetic datums.\n\n\n\nProcessing Steps: Coordinates entered by keyboard from licence/permit documents. Non GDA94 coordinates transformed into GDA94. Linework cleaned to remove duplicate arcs. Data adjusted for accurate state border and coastline. Where appropriate cadastral parcels removed from licence/permit polygons.
