Datafiles for "QuakeMigrate: a Python Package for Automatic Earthquake Detection and Location Using Waveform Migration and Stacking"

Cut waveform data (in miniSEED format, spanning -12s to +48s relative to the event origin time), accompanying waveform metadata (in STATIONXML format) and manual phase pick times for 1,706 earthquakes around Askja volcano 2007-2015, used as a benchmark dataset to test the location performance of the automatic earthquake location software QuakeMigrate. Scripts to extract these data and process them to reproduce the benchmark results are available in the GitHub repository accompanying the manuscript https://github.com/QuakeMigrate/manuscript (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.16419322). Waveforms are from stations in the 4F (https://doi.org/10.7914/SN/4F_2007), Z7 (https://doi.org/10.7914/SN/Z7_2010) and VI (https://doi.org/10.7914/zkjm-tj71) networks operated by the University of Cambridge & University of Iceland (4F & Z7) and the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO, VI network). Continuous waveform data for the former two networks is openly available on IRIS/EarthScope; cut waveforms from IMO stations are uploaded with permission, and continuous waveforms will be archived publicly through ORFEUS in future. Note that the IMO waveform data and metadata have not been quality checked and may contain errors, as well as data gaps related to interruptions in data transmission. Manual phase pick times are derived from the collated dataset in Winder (2021) (https://doi.org/10.17863/CAM.82505), also published in part in Greenfield et al. (2016) (https://doi.org/10.1002/2016JB013163) and Han et al. (2024) (https://doi.org/10.1029/2023GL107851). In addition, profiling data are provided for runs of the Askja Volcanotectonic and Deep-Long Period earthquake example with varying parameter choices, to illustrate the computational cost, memory usage and runtime scaling of QuakeMigrate. These results were generated using a MacBook Pro 14 (2021) with an Apple M1 Max CPU and 32 GB of RAM (512-bit LPDDR5 SDRAM memory). The Apple M1 Max has 8 high-performance "Firestorm" cores (3228 MHz clockspeed) and 2 energy-efficient "Icestorm" cores (2064 MHz). The 8 Firestorm cores are split into two clusters, with each cluster sharing 12 MB of L2 cache. See Supplementary Material Section S3 for further details. Note that the binary outputs from memray are not necessarily portable across versions: these results were generated using memray v1.19.1.
