Kafue and Katete. Enterobacteriaceae

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of third-generation cephalosporin resistance in periurban and rural districts of Zambia. Cefotaxime-resistant Enterobacteriaceae were collected from human patients in Zambia's Kafue and Katete districts. Furthermore, our results revealed a predominance of E. coli and high rates of blaCTX-M and blaTEM genes. Based on these and previously reported results, we have developed a rapid and accurate tool for detecting blaCTX-M and blaTEM-producing E. coli and K. pneumoniae.
