The human IgG anti-carbohydrate repertoire exhibits a universal architecture and contains specificity for microbial attachment sites.

The human IgG anti-carbohydrate repertoire was assessed using glycan array technology. The glycan microarray version 5.1 (610 different glycans) from the CFG (www.functionalglycomics.org/static/consortium/resources/resourcecoreh8.shtml) was screened with the seven IVIG preparations and mixed human myeloma IgG1 and IgG2 control mix to determine the background level. The epitope was one of the top 20 glycans bound by Privigen. The epitope was also one of the top 20 microorganism-associated glycans bound by IVIG/SCIG. The bacterial glycans were identified using the Bacterial Carbohydrate Structure Data Base.
