Throughout2022–2023,WHOprovidedguidanceandsupporttocommunitiesnewlyaffectedbympox,includinggaymen,bisexualmenandothermenwhohavesexwithmen,transandgender-diversepeopleandsexworkers.Thistechnicalbriefprovideskeyfindingsfromanelectronicsurveydesignedtoidentifytheirfearsandconcerns,adaptivechangesinsexualbehaviourresultingfrommpox,accesstompoxdiagnosisandvaccinationandindividualexperiencesofmpox.Thesurveyidentifiedhighlevelsofmpox-relatedconcernsamongaffectedcommunities,whichtranslatedintowidespread,temporaryadaptationsofpeople’ssexualbehaviourtomanagetheirrisk.Surveydataanalysisalsoidentifiedinsufficientandunequalaccesstompoxtestingandvaccinationservicesacrosssettings.People’sself-reportedexperienceofmpoxhighlightedtheroleofstigmaanddiscriminationinincreasingtheemotionaldistressproducedbythephysicalsymptomsoftheillness.Findingsfromthissurveyprovidevaluableinsightsintotheexperiencesandneedsoftheaffectedcommunitiesandemphasizestheimportanceofincreasingaccesstovaccinationanddiagnosticsglobally.Tailoredriskcommunicationandcommunityengagementstrategiesareessentialtorespondeffectivelytofutureoutbreaksandprotectat-riskindividualsandcommunities.
