Documentation of the prokaryotic diversity is essential as a primary step towards understanding the microbial contribution to ecosystem dynamics in athalassohaline and thalassohaline environments. The bacterial composition of two Egyptian brines, athalassohaline Lake, Aghormy, Siwa Oasis, and thalassohaline brine, Sabkhas, Bardawil, Sinai, was explored and evaluated, based on culture-independent 16S rRNA metagenomic high throughput Ion S5 sequencing.
