Metataxonomy of acid mine drainage microbiomes from the Santa Catarina Carboniferous Basin (Southern Brazil)

In this work, prokaryotic (16S) and eukaryotic (18S) communities were evaluated by meta-taxonomy in sediments and bodies of water from different mining areas in the Santa Catarina Carboniferous Basin, an important coal mining area in southern Brazil. Five sampling stations were defined, three of which are mine mouths with a critical history of AMD generation (pH 2.7-3.6), another located in a mine mouth with less acidic characteristics (pH above 4.25), and a last station was in junction of rivers that receive DAM and domestic sewage generated in the river basin.
