DATA from: Lire le passé forestier dans un bourbier : histoire écologique et dynamique contemporaine d’une population marginale nordique d’érable rouge (Acer rubrum). A MSExcel spreadsheet including wood macrofossil charcoal data extracted from a forest hollow in site T83, located at the leading edge of red maple in the mixedwood ecotone. Description of the Data and file structure Sheet 1 - Number of wood charcoal particles extracted at each 1cm-depth from three peat cores (B1, SR2, and SR3) sampled in the forest hollow at site T83. Cores B1, SR2, and SR3 were washed in sieves (4mm and 2mm mesh-size) and the number of charcoal particles recovered from each sieve are reported at each depth (in cm from the surface). Sheet 2 - Details of taxonomic identifications and radiocarbon datations. Core: The core from which each charcoal particle was extracted (B1, SR2, or SR3); Depth: the depth at which the charcoal particles was found (in cm from the surface), core B1 was subsampled every 5 cm for taxonomic identifications; Sieve: the sieve from which the charcoal particles was retrieved (4mm or 2mm mesh-size); Sample ID: an arbitrary number (given for each individual particle recovered from a peat sample at a given mesh-size); Charcoal ID: a unique identifier for each charcoal in the dataset; Mass: the mass of each individual charcoal particle before taxonomic identification (in g); Notes (in french): some explnatory notes regarding features used for taxonomic identifications and/or taphonomic issues; Taxonomic ID: the taxonomic identifications; Mass2: the mass of charcoal material that was send for radiocrabon datation after taxonomic identification (in g); Lab Number (UCIAMS; ULA): Laboratory number given by the Keck Carbon Cycle AMS Facility (UCIAMS) and Laboratoire de radiochronologie 14C du Centre d’études nordiques (ULA); 14C age: radiocarbon age and standard deviation (in years Before Present); 2σ-interval (and probability): the two-sigma interval of the calibrated date having the highest probability (in calibrated years Before Present) and associated probability; Median calibrated age: the median calibrated age (in calibrated years Before Present).
