We looked at the effects of antibiotic treatment on mice receiving suboptimal vitamin K in the diet. Antibiotics affect gut bacteria which produce vitamin K2 in the gastrointestinal tract. Treatment in antibiotics resulted in anemia and gastric hemorrhage in our model, which was rescued with vitamin K1 treatment. Treatment with antibiotics may cause adverse effects in individuals with vitamin K deficiency
