With the help of photolysis processes, UV and reactive oxygen species (ROS) enriched the SMX removal route, which resulted in the fact that the SMX removal pathway in the L-MABR was no longer limited to enzyme catalysis. More importantly, attributable to functional bacteria inactivation, whether in effluent or biofilm, the copy number of ARGs in the L-MABR was 1-3 orders of magnitude lower than that in the MABR. This paper demonstrated the feasibility of utilizing simulated-sunlight to enhance antibiotic removal efficiency while reducing the ARGs production, which provided a new idea for the removal of antibiotic from wastewater.
