For each plant group, the species have been ranked according to decreasing AUC* values. The logistic models of the first five seed plants and four ferns (in bold) met all three goodness-of-fit criteria described in the Methods (i.e. a Chi-squared’s p-value <0.05, AUC ≥ 0.7 and McFadden’s ρ2 ≥ 0.2) and were selected for testing the fragmentation threshold hypothesis. *AUC = Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve Goodness-of-fit statistics for the forest cover and fragmentation logistic models generated for ten herbs and six ferns inhabiting forest understories in Peninsular Spain.
