CHW Study Data - Dominican Republic 2019-2022

This data corresponds to a study that examines the impact and effectiveness of a Community Health Worker (CHW) network in the Greater Santo Domingo foci of the Dominican Republic. Data was analyzed from the implementation of a Community Health Worker (CHW) network in La Cienaga (starting June 2019), San Cristobal (starting June 2019), and Los Tres Brazos (starting December 2019) through December 2022, including periods affected by COVID-19.Performance was assessed across three time periods: pre-COVID-19 (up to April 2020), during COVID-19 (March 2020 to July 2021), and post-COVID-19 (August 2021 to December 2022). The COVID-19 period included lockdown (March 2020-September 2020), restrictions (September 2020-February 2021), and administrative delays (February 2021-July 2021).Two primary data sources were used: SurveyCTO, an online platform for CHW monitoring and evaluation, and the Ministry of Health's (MoH) malaria database. SurveyCTO provided data on CHW performance, including the number of houses visited, persons contacted, tests performed, and cases detected. Weekly evaluations from SurveyCTO resulted in 4,989 CHW monitoring and evaluation forms. The MoH database provided data on epidemiological trends and case management practices.Data for the three foci (La Cienaga, San Cristobal, and Los Tres Brazos) were analyzed individually and presented across four categories: household visitation, malaria testing, malaria case detection, and time between symptom onset and treatment. Data were assessed during each of the three time periods, and paired t-tests were used to compare household visits, rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) performed, cases detected, and test positivity across the periods, using Stata version 14.2.
