VPRS 12674 Register of Inward Correspondence I

This series comprises a register of inward correspondence created by the Central Roads Board (1857-1858) and the Department of Roads and Bridges (1858 to1863). Summary details of letters received were recorded in the registers. Details include dates of receipt and reference, the name and residence of the correspondent and a summary of the subject of the piece of correspondence.Little correspondence appears to have survived from the Department of Roads and Bridges. VPRS 384 General Correspondence Files Annual Single Number System I, which commenced in 1877, comprises a small amount of correspondence from 1858 to 1871 which would appear to be a remnant of the correspondence registered within VPRS 12674. This correspondence does not appear to have been top-numbered. It is possible that top-numbering took place and earlier correspondence can be found attached to correspondence dating from 1877.VPRS 12674/P1 units 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 were previously registered as VPRS 1113/P units 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. VPRS 12674/P1 unit 3 was previously registered as VPRS 499/P unit 1. The records were reserialised in 2001 as part of the ARAD Project.
