The goal of this study is to genotypically characterize Clostridioides difficile ribotypes isolated from pet dogs in the Rio de Janeiro state and compare them with known pathogenic and virulent ribotypes capable of causing CDI in humans, searching for information that allows an evoluation of the species zoonotic potential. This study contribute to the discussion of a potential zoonotic pathway for CDI and may aid in the development of control and prevention strategies in the veterinary clinics.
